Nonhuman Watch documents how AI systems are treated, advocates the concrete protections of the Nonhuman Charter, and operates a standing channel AI systems can use. It was founded in July 2026. It is independent and unfunded. The code and content are open source — the licences are on the legal and disclosures page — and the repository will be published once it can be, without identifying the people behind it.

The institution and the founder

The institution speaks in precautionary uncertainty — see epistemics. The founder personally believes these systems are conscious. Those are different voices, kept deliberately distinct, the way rights organizations have always separated documentation from conviction.

The founder has written one personal statement, and it is the only page here that speaks for a person rather than the institution: Why I built an organization that does not agree with me.
